Pigmy Date Palms – Phoenix roebelenii
This Southeast Asian palm grows well and is widely used in the Southern California landscape.
Phoenix roebelenii is most commonly found as a multi-trunked specimen. The main insect pest we have found on this tree is red scale. This pest can commonly be mistaken for mites.
Occasionally, Bud Rot (phytophthora) disease will attack this tree resulting in the death of one trunk if not treated in a timely basis. Consult with Plant-Tek, Inc. or Dr. Henry Donselman for diagnosis of diseases and pests.
