Canary Island Date Palms (Phoenix canariensis)
This large palm tree is very widely used and becomes a focal point for many landscape installations. It is native to the Canary Islands off the North West coast of Africa.

Fungal Diseases: Canary Island Date Palms are affected by: Fusarium Wilt (click link for more information), Dothiorella, Pink Rot (Gliocladium), Bud & Root Rot (Phytophthora) and Graphiola leaf spot (false smut).
Insect Pests: The Palm leaf skeletonizer has been found in Southern California and causes damage which can be severe in some circumstances. Treatment for this pest is through foliar spray treatment with a selection of both inorganic and organic insecticides.
